FiCDundee SEs Aspiring Event

On March 13, Faith in Community Dundee organized a small event on Social Enterprise in collaboration with Dundee Social Enterprise Network (SEN) at The Factory Skatepark. A total of 8 people, representing different churches and projects, participated in the event. Susan Smith from Dundee SEN introduced the concept of social enterprise - its definition, criteria and legal status and explored options to manage a business model for charity oriented entities. After the introduction session, Peter Friend from Helm Training shared his experience of running a social enterprise - its ethos and community engagement. Towards the end of the event, the floor was open for discussion where participants looked at how to get started and what kind of support - resources, knowledge and experience - is available to budding social enterprises, through Dundee SEN and other organizations.

Sport and Recreation Alliance 2013 Awards Now Open

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Sport and Recreation Alliance Awards to recognise sporting organisations or professional clubs for their achievements. Open Lecture at the Al-Maktoum College

Qur'an Manuscripts: Thoughts on How the Text was Preserved and
Passed on

OPEN LECTURE
Rev Dr Keith Small
Wednesday 20 February 2013 at 6pm
AL-MAKTOUM COLLEGE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Modern studies of the old manuscripts can provide valuable insight into our knowledge of how sacred texts have been preserved and passed on from their earliest days. Using some of these methods to look at ancient Qur'an manuscripts some observations will be made concerning the earliest forms of the Qur'an that have been preserved and how the text has developed into the form in use today. Some thoughts will also be shared concerning the relationship between oral and written transmission as oral features were increasingly incorporated into written manuscripts. Manuscripts from collections in Yemen, Istanbul, Paris Oxford, and London will be featured.

The Rev Dr Keith Small is a visiting Lecturer and Associate Research Fellow at the London School of Theology and teaches both undergraduates and postgraduates in Britain and internationally concerning Islamic and Christian theology and especially the history of the texts of the Qur'an and the New Testament. Dr. Small has taught internationally and at major academic conferences in Britain, Germany, France, and the USA. His book Textual Criticism and Qur'an Manuscripts was published by Lexington books in April 2011.
